Holiday Show

Kick off the Holiday Season with an afternoon of spectacular dancing and singing to the magical sounds of old holiday favorites and new classics. Bring your family and friends and create a special holiday memory.

Note: This page gives details from our December 2012 Holiday Show. We will update it with information for the 2013 show in the fall of 2013.

Here we go again! December will be here before you know it. We are already making preparations for our 2012 Annual Holiday Show. If you are interested in being a part of this wonderful show, and you attended our May Invite Class, please fill out the Holiday Show Permission Form and return it to the studio. If you didn't attend our May Invite Class, you may still be able to participate; please contact the studio. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the studio. Thank you.

Who Can Participate?

Any student who is currently age 7 and above (and in our Child 2 level or higher) is eligible to participate.

The only time we might not be able to accept a student into the Holiday Show is if (a) we do not have a sufficient number of students of the same age, ability, and size to form a dance, or (b) if we were unable to obtain costumes for a student that fit.

Most Holiday Show dances in our Intermediate levels and above are designed for students at the level of our Performing Groups (i.e. they are taking ballet and jazz and possibly lyrical and tap). You may perform in the Holiday Show without being a member of the Performing Group; please call us before auditioning.

When are the Rehearsals and the Show?

The Dress Rehearsal will be Sunday, December 2, 2012, from approx. 1:00pm to 7:00pm at Salesianum High School (specific details to be given later). The Dress Rehearsal is mandatory. (We usually plan the schedule so that very young performers do not have to stay the whole time.)

The Performances are Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Salesianum School in Wilmington, DC at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.

We will be placing dances in the show from three different areas of our school:

~ Our Performing Groups will rehearse dances during their weekday Performing Group classes and present these dances in the show.

~ Children in our Kinderdance 2, Child 1 Ballet/Tap, Child 2 Ballet/Tap, and Child 3 Ballet/Tap classes will be taught a routine in their regular classes that can be presented in our Holiday Show if the students in these classes wish to participate. Information about these routines will be given to the students in theses classes at the end of September. Participation in the Holiday Show for these students will be totally optional.

~ We will rehearse additional special numbers on weekends during the months of September, October, and November that will be presented in the Holiday Show. These dances will be taught on Saturdays in September, October, and November. A weekly Saturday rehearsal schedule, as well as the performance and dress rehearsal dates, will be posted (before you commit) on our Rehearsal page. Attendance at the rehearsals will be mandatory for students in these numbers.

What About Fees and Tickets?

If you participate in the Holiday Show, each cast member will be responsible for a $75.00 performance fee payable by mid-September. (For students performing in only one dance, the performance fee will be $50.) This fee will cover all rehearsals and rental of costumes.

Tickets for the show will be sold separately and are not included in the $75 performance fee. Everyone wishing to watch the show will need a ticket. The cost of a ticket will approximately be $15.

What About Costumes?

Unlike our Recital where every class has a costume that we purchase from a costume company, our Holiday Show is different. We may order some costumes; we may use costumes we already have in stock; we may try to reuse some of last year’s recital costumes; we may borrow costumes from other schools. Some of the routines will have costumes that the students create themselves (examples: in one number the students will wear their own mittens, snow jackets, and scarves; in another number the students will wear anything white; in another anything green, white, and red).

You may need to buy tights and shoes for the routines you are in, but in most cases you should already have these items in your regular dance classes.

See our Holiday Show Costume page for details about costumes.

When Do I Need To Commit?

You will not need to make a commitment to us about the show until we given you specific dates and rehearsal times.

What if I Have Prior Commitments?

If you choose to participate, you will need to submit to us a list of any prior commitments you have that would prevent you from attending any of our weekend rehearsals. Sometime it is possible for us to work our rehearsals around a family’s prior commitments if we know of them far enough in advance (i.e. before we make up our rehearsal schedules). Should a student miss too many rehearsals due to other events, the student might have to be replaced. We are very committed to the teamwork of our students and we have to ask that the students do the same. Teamwork is our key to success.
